Hi, thanks for sharing your setup. You're looking at an RTX 2070 with solid components, but you're not seeing the performance you hoped for in Fortnite. The numbers suggest your GPU is handling the game well, yet you're only getting around 180 FPS instead of the 400+ you expected.

Given your current hardware—i5-7400, 16GB RAM, ASUS motherboard, and H500i case with a 1240 SSD—it’s likely the bottleneck is still your GPU or possibly your CPU if it's not keeping up. Since you mentioned wanting to upgrade your processor but have a budget of about $500, here are some options:

- **CPU Upgrade:** If your i5-7400 is older, consider moving to an i5-10400 or i5-11400 series for better multi-core performance.
- **GPU Consideration:** The RTX 2070 is still capable for casual gaming and streaming, but if you want higher FPS consistently, a newer GPU like the RTX 3060 or 3070 would be a good step.
- **Budget-Friendly Tips:** Look for deals on mid-range CPUs or consider a budget GPU that matches your needs.

Let me know if you'd like help finding specific parts or comparing models within your budget!

since used costs for the i7-7700 seem poor, Ryzen offers a better alternative. PCPartPicker lists items with current pricing. Motherboards, memory, and other components are available at various retailers. Prices reflect shipping, taxes, and discounts. Total amounts are provided for reference.

Absolutely, your CPU is clearly limiting performance. Before making changes, consider whether 180fps is sufficient. Do you possess a monitor capable of displaying 180hz? Upgrading makes no sense if you can't see the improvement. If you decide to upgrade, an MSI B450 board (Tomahawk and gaming configurations work well) paired with an R3600 or a 3700x would be ideal for tasks like video editing. I don’t recommend Intel because their upgrade options are very limited.

You require a minimum of 240 frames per second for stability, since you're competing in Fortnite.

I'll look into the CPU and motherboard. Is a Ryzen more suitable than an Intel?

Intel offers slightly better value, yes. In terms of performance, Intel maintains a minor edge. AMD provides an upgrade route for newer chips this year, which Intel lacks, making it a stronger choice.

His suggestion is perfect. For the PSU I recommend waiting until you discover a great deal (650w - 800w, gold, $80-$90). Purchasing a higher-end PSU will provide confidence and durability, while also ensuring better warranty coverage. Additionally, you won’t have to stress about power needs since most systems operate smoothly on 600w.

If you purchase a Ryzen processor around $300, it may offer better performance compared to an Intel processor of similar price due to advancements in architecture and features.

I completely support his view. The Ryzen 4000 is likely to outperform Intel. The R 4600 stands out as the top choice for gaming at just $200. This offers a solid upgrade opportunity.
