Nearly every one of my matches stops working sporadically after a variable duration.
Nearly every one of my matches stops working sporadically after a variable duration.
Issue:
Most of my games freeze after a random period, unlike typical lag issues – they simply stop responding and require me to restart my computer. This problem has persisted for months, despite numerous attempts at resolution. A video showing the freeze is attached.
PC Details:
* Operating System: Windows 10
* CPU: i5-7600K @ 3.80GHz
* RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4
* Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
* Motherboard: ASRock B250M-HDV S1151
* Cooler: Cooler Master 212 EVO
* Power Supply: Corsair CX450M
* SSD: Samsung 850 EVO (250GB) – OS and some games
* HDD: 1TB Seagate HDD – Most files and larger games
* Monitor: Older Hitachi TV
The PC was built by me and a friend, with standard build issues resolved. Audio loops repeatedly during freezes, most noticeable in certain games. I can move the mouse and use keyboard shortcuts while frozen; the game appears to just stop responding, not display a crash error. I have to use keyboard commands (e.g., CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) to force-close the game through Task Manager. Only Destiny and Forza Horizon 4 run without freezing, suggesting a specific launch or execution method. Freezes only occur during gameplay – other programs run normally. No error messages appear, and the freezes are unpredictable. The two unaffected games are on my HDD alongside other freezing titles.
Tests and Solutions:
I’ve performed various tests, including CPU/GPU temperature checks (idle and during Rocket League gameplay), RAM testing with the Windows diagnostic tool, antivirus/malware scans (which found 8 popups), voltage tests with HWinfo (with a freeze during the test, but readings remained stable), and benchmark testing, which indicated healthy hardware. I recently reinstalled my graphics drivers using DDU, providing temporary relief but not a permanent fix. I’ve tried most troubleshooting steps aside from swapping components due to limited availability. My hardware tests are fine, and the PC runs smoothly in other applications. I recently received a warning from Substance Painter regarding my TDR value, suggesting it might be too low and causing program crashes. I’m considering a clean Windows install, but uncertain if it will solve the problem.
I'm seeking advice on what to discuss with a local computer shop before Friday, as I am completely baffled by this issue.
