NBN modem-router featuring 4G backup capability
Hi everyone, I currently use a Telstra Frontier Modem Router for my home network. Like many users, I intended to replace it with a third-party model from brands like D-Link or Netgear, but encountered a minor problem. The device includes a SIM card with built-in 4G backup, which automatically switches to 4G when the landline goes down. I’m unable to locate any modem routers offering similar 4G backup features, and I can’t see the need to spend around $500 (AUD) on a downgrade. In short, should I go for a third-party router without 4G backup, or is there a reputable option available? Thanks, Vizz.
Having a reliable backup internet source depends on your specific needs. Are you managing essential tasks that demand constant access without interruptions, or is this simply a convenience option?
It gives more peace of mind while playing games and helps avoid losing important points. I've seen the 4G activation happen at least once during the last week.
I’d just need a phone nearby with a wireless hotspot if you’re really concerned about missing your partner. To be honest, it’s just a test unless you’re getting super cheap internet. I’ve been using NBN (FTTP) for about two years now and haven’t experienced any real downtime from the network, especially during busy times. There were around ten outages, each lasting no more than 15 minutes. I also have others, but those happened at night or during the day.
