I tried to find a method to switch out of fullscreen on a second screen while keeping the game running smoothly. I wanted to avoid the lag that comes with switching back to fullscreen. There are ways to manage this, like using the graphics card driver directly or adjusting display settings, but it depends on your system and how the game is set up. Let me know if you'd like more details on specific steps!

Borderless Gaming could be useful. Certain titles offer game mod packs; I installed a Dark Souls 3 mod that enabled ultra wide support and borderless windowed mode.

The requirement is for the game to run in fullscreen mode during play and allow tab exits without triggering any interruptions. Any attempt to convert a windowed version into a fullscreen or borderless setup won't function properly. Appreciate the feedback!

Borderless Fullscreen typically handles that, right? Many titles include that setting in their video options. It allows you to exit using the alt key without causing any noticeable issues or pauses (some games even stop when they lose focus, though they may let you disable it).

I need to stop DWM from disrupting my performance during tight moments. The current setup isn’t working. I’m looking for a way to either use fullscreen completely or let the display driver handle the game better in borderless/windowed settings. What’s the best approach?

The issue arises because fullscreen mode forces the application to control video output directly from the OS. This bypasses the GPU, causing it to go straight through the program or through the OS, which increases latency and lowers performance. Windowed fullscreen keeps the OS in the loop, adding delays but maintaining better efficiency. No known solutions exist for this problem.

During testing, I noticed inconsistencies where interference between players varied based on game modes, configurations, and frame rate issues. This happened during a stuttering episode that appeared fullscreen when using optimal GPU settings.

There isn’t any realistic solution here. Windows isn’t built for this scenario. The only possible way would be connecting a second monitor to another computer—like a budget laptop or a mini PC—and using a KVM switch to redirect your mouse and keyboard between the two devices. This wouldn’t interfere with the game and could meet their requirements.
