I'm looking to upgrade my old 10-year-old PC into a NAS for storing files, security camera footage, and streaming media. It has a modest setup: 2-core, 2-thread CPU (A4-4000), Radeon HD 6670 GPU, and 4 GB RAM. Two people using it should be fine. Do you think this configuration is sufficient for your needs?

This setup works well for a basic NAS. I have one running on a dual-core, two-threaded Core 2 processor.

Simply implement RAID 1 or RAID 10 for reliable data protection. These setups avoid the need for parity computations that can slow down your NAS when handling large amounts of data. Consider testing RAID5 first (needs at least three drives) before finalizing your setup.

In a basic NAS setup, an older dual-core processor works perfectly. I've been using a Core 2 Duo machine as a NAS for years without any problems, even with a gigabit connection.

Given the system's dedicated GPU for video encoding, it seems capable of handling the task smoothly.
