I'm updating my NAS because the previous one stopped working properly. I'm unsure which operating system would work best for managing my files automatically. With the old setup, I used Windows Home Server and copied my media weekly. Is there a simpler OS option that requires minimal configuration? I prefer a solution where I can just install it and let it handle the rest without constant adjustments.

I've been working with Windows Server 2012R2, which offers enhancements compared to the older version. Alternatively, you might consider installing FreeNAS—it's straightforward to set up and completely free.

Yeah, I was considering Freenos but then I found out it requires 8GB of RAM to run, which is way more than what I have—only 2GB.

It seems you're focusing on a specific scenario. If you're using a ZFS fileshare, you're in the right place. I remember having a Freenas with just 2 gigabytes of RAM and 3 gigabytes of storage—it performed exceptionally well. I strongly suggest considering a Freenas if you're looking for a NAS solution. There are numerous file share options available, it runs quickly, consumes minimal power, yet delivers strong performance. There are many additional advantages as well.
