Mysterious frame cap issue
Mysterious frame cap issue
It's really frustrating. Without updating the driver, CSGO seems stuck at around 60 FPS with wild swings down to 30. Earlier I could hit over 250 FPS at full settings, but lowering everything didn’t help much. I checked all frame limits and Vsync is off. This keeps happening in under eight hours! I also tried Dota 2 and it barely reached 60 FPS. Other games work fine, so the problem might be specific to Source engine titles—maybe I’ll give Insurgency a shot next. i7-4720HQ GTX 970M Windows 8.1
Confirm a few details: Power saving options, single display performance—this really helped. What kind of monitor are you using? Check if it supports 120Hz+ and look at the Nvidia Control panel for Vsync settings and game-specific adjustments. If you're not pushing the GPU to its limit, increasing AA or similar values might improve results.
you can enable v-sync in nvidia's settings as suggested by fulgrim @ RazeG3SG1. Also, verify nvidia's control panel—your laptop might be selecting integrated graphics instead of the 970m when playing dota2 or csgo.
It seems my classmates believe it’ll be amusing to trick me by changing my laptop’s settings from high performance to power saving while it’s connected. Yes, the cap disappears when switching to high performance. Interestingly, this doesn’t influence Warframe’s frame rate.
