My Windows 11 internet connection is getting cut off sometimes.
My ethernet keeps disconnecting randomly, especially after heavy usage on Windows 11 Pro. It usually stays disconnected until restart. My components: MSI B550 Tomahawk Ryzen 7 3700x GTX 1080 TI DA850 Gold Silverstone – power supply Patriot Viper 4 Series DDR4 32GB (2x 16GB) 3200MT (PV432G320C6K) P5 M.2 SSD What have I tried: Changed ethernet cable to new one. – I have tried both ethernet ports on MOBO Reset modem settings and restart modem. Almost all software tweaks that I have found online – multiple settings (reset network….etc.). Upgrade network drivers Completely fresh reinstall Windows 11 Change power supply and SSD drive. Update BIOS to the latest version. I'm currently considering that the problem might be related to Windows 11 itself, given that my other computer that runs on Windows 10 doesn't encounter the same issues. It could also be an issue with the modem itself or a possible hardware malfunction. Interestingly, when I utilize an external WiFi dongle, the WiFi connection seems to work flawlessly. I'm open to suggestions for potential solutions or fixes.
Check your Reliability History or Event Viewer folder. One of those tools might be showing an error, warning, or message just before the connection breaks. If you see something about the ethernet adapter from @Richj444, that could be it. = = = = Make sure only one network card is turned on: keep both wired and wireless off at the same time. Don't let two adapters live together. Turn off IPv6 because it can cause trouble. Run the built-in Windows troubleshooters to see if they fix things. Also try running "sfc /scannow" or "dism" to clean up bad files.
I've stopped using all the programs that could make this happen because I can't see anything related to my ethernet card. I don't have an Intel card, just a realtek one running the newest version. Right now, only one adapter is working for me. I turned off IPv6 too, but so far nothing has helped even after reinstalling Windows and running all the built-in fixes like SFC, SCANNOW, and DISM multiple times without success.
Time to dig deeper: Is our computer connected via a wired line? If yes, try swapping the Ethernet cables. Check if the problem follows the new "Windows 11 cable" or stays with the old one. What's printed on those wires? Get the make and model numbers for both modem and router (or combined unit). The router's logs might give us a hint. Who has full control over the router? You'll need their help too. On our computer, open Command Prompt and run "ipconfig /all" without quotes. Paste the results here. No need to type it out all by yourself. [Note: moving this thread from Windows 11 to Networking is more useful; there may be other suggestions here.]
