I’d love to enjoy gaming with my current rig for a while. I’m not into extreme settings or anything locked at 60 FPS, but it should stay smooth—no stuttering and keeping above 29 FPS. My Phenom will run at its 4.3ghz OC, and I’ve upgraded the RAM from 4GB to 8. I’ll probably go with a GTX 580 or 660TI, maybe a 670. AMD is also on my list, but better drivers for slower CPUs are essential for me. Thanks for the support, Digital Foundry!

No one seems to have confirmed whether the Phenom causes major slowdowns on an R7 260X or a GTX 950.

A 660 Ti is roughly comparable to a 7870, which is the actual technology used by a PS4.

Most of the time it's no, but I don't like Arma, so that's fine.

These budget graphics cards perform well even on lower-end systems such as GTX960 or R9 380 without causing noticeable performance issues.

I could get away with trading in my old graphics card for a decent price on a GTX 670 or Radeon 7950, but I’ll only buy the Radeon models if they’re the best option. AMD should focus more on reducing CPU overhead and improving their drivers.

It seems the advice comes from someone familiar with high-end gaming hardware. A PS4 offers performance comparable to an A10 series processor, roughly around 7750 performance.

It's commonly understood that the PS4 functions more like a mobile processor with eight cores and a 7870 chipset.

In reality, a 7870 would likely cause significant damage to a PS4.

You're referring to a misunderstanding about the PS4's specifications. It doesn't have a 270 resolution.
