I recently purchased a gigabyte z390 Aorus Master MB and am having trouble fitting it into my nzxt h700i case. The standoffs aren’t aligning properly, and I’m struggling to secure it without damaging the board. It worked fine with my previous MB, so I suspect the issue is with the pre-installed IO shield that comes with this model. I’ve tried forcing it in, but any further pressure risks harming the device. A few attempts with alignment haven’t worked either.
Occasionally, after installing a M.2 drive into a new case, I notice the mounting points don’t line up perfectly. Usually I fix it by pressing the drive a bit harder against the back of the case until they match. What’s unusual is that the IO backplate fits the cutout just fine, but yours appears to be off by a noticeable amount.
The IO shield needs minor tweaks for proper alignment. Make sure it's correctly positioned and apply enough force to match the standoffs accurately.
I think the IO shield is a newer style that’s usually mounted directly onto the motherboard, just like with the one I have on my X570 Aorus Xtreme.
