My system has solid components, yet it falls short of what I expected.
Hi everyone! I’m trying to set up a solid environment with an Intel Core i7-6700HQ, 16GB RAM, a GeForce GTX 1060 on a gigabyte laptop with 256 SSDs and a 1TB HDD. Despite having plenty of resources, my CAT tools (Trados Studio, Across, Transit NXT) slow down a lot when working with large documents, even though my CPU and RAM stay under 45%. I’m stuck and don’t want to change hardware without first diagnosing the issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Yuna
You have two main resources capped at Trados and SQL work. What options do you have left?
Use hardware acceleration consistently for improved performance. Apply general optimizations such as turning off unnecessary background processes on your operating system. Adjust your workflow—for instance, video editors can leverage proxies to speed up tasks. If the software is open source, you may recompile it using specific flags. For closed-source programs, these steps might offer limited help. The effectiveness depends on the manufacturer’s support for the issue. I cannot provide detailed guidance based on individual software use without hands-on experience. Conduct your own research.
