I snagged Rust during the Steam Summer Sale – it seemed great at first, everything worked fine when I was just browsing the menus. But then things started going wrong pretty quickly. After about 20 minutes on a server, the game would just freeze, then crash with an error related to Easy Anticheat. It became a really frustrating cycle: I’d join a server, play for 15-30 minutes, and then the game would crash, sometimes requiring me to completely restart my computer just to get it running again. I’ve tried everything – verifying my game files, lowering my graphics settings, even temporarily disabling my Bitdefender antivirus software – but nothing seems to fix it. I’ve been scouring the internet for solutions, looking up the error codes, but most of them were tied to a different problem with LightningService.exe, which isn’t on my PC. I'm really hoping someone can help me out.

Here are some details about my system: a Ryzen 7 2700 with a stock cooler, an Asus ROG Strix x470-f motherboard, an Asus ROG Strix RX 590 graphics card, 32GB of Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro RAM running at 3200MHz, a Corsair Vengeance 650M PSU, and a 1TB Toshiba HDD. I'm running Windows 10 Pro. Interestingly, when the game freezes, it displays those same repeating squares that I used to see with my GTA 5 crashes. [Attached image of GTA5 crash issue] The Rust error code is also included.

I picked up the game during the Summer Sale – it seemed like a good deal – and after installing it, everything looked fine in the main menu. I joined a server and started playing, but after about twenty minutes, Rust just froze on me with an error message: “Game Security Violation Detected #00000018”. From that point on, it kept crashing every 15 to 30 minutes while I was online, displaying the same error each time. Sometimes, I even had to completely restart my computer just to get it running again. When the game froze, I’d see a pattern of squares on my screen – kind of like what happened with GTA5 when it crashed. I'm going to share two images on imgur that show exactly what’s happening.

Hey, I’ve been getting the same error message as you – it's been really frustrating because I couldn’t find any information about code #00000018. I reached out to Facepunch support, and they told me they’re collaborating with EAC to get a fix out as soon as possible. Apparently, lots of other players are running into this problem too, so it should sort itself out in the next few days. I’ll let you know if I hear anything new from my support request, and feel free to reach out if you’d like.

Hey, I just submitted a support ticket and they suggested some troubleshooting steps – I’ve already tried everything they recommended, but nothing's working. I’ve attached the output log and my DirectX diagnostic information so hopefully they can take a look and figure out what’s going on. Thanks for your help!

Also, can you just keep me updated, so I can know what's going on
