I purchased this computer approximately four years ago, which feels relatively recent. Previously, I achieved frame rates exceeding 300 in CSGO, but now my performance has dropped to 140. Many users with PCs older than five years continue to experience smooth CSGO gameplay. Therefore, I’m seeking assistance in determining whether my system is experiencing overheating or if a bottleneck exists within my GPU or CPU. For the past two months, I've utilized MSI Afterburner while playing Apex Legends and CSGO, observing that my CPU consistently reaches 90% usage during Apex Legends, while my GPU remains at 80%. However, in CSGO, the CPU frequently nears 100%, yet my GPU rarely exceeds 50% regardless of settings or resolution changes. I’ve explored all options within the NVIDIA control panel, but I've deactivated VSync to minimize input lag – a crucial factor for competitive play. My goal is to eliminate any settings that could negatively impact my gameplay. In Apex Legends, I often see frame rates reduced to 70 during intense gunfights. Interestingly, a friend with a similar configuration—an i7 6700k and a GTX 1070—consistently maintains 144+ frames. Could anyone facing similar issues offer guidance?

My system specifications are: GTX 1070, i7 6700, 16GB of RAM (single stick).

I recommend performing a fresh installation of your graphics card drivers with DDU. This can resolve problems caused by Windows Updates affecting your display drivers. Additionally, you’re only utilizing one RAM module, while your acquaintance may be using two? Running with a single stick of RAM prevents Dual Channel operation, effectively halving your memory bandwidth. This can result in a reduction of up to 30% in frame rates within certain games. Refer to this video for further information: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBmElSVy4U8. Consequently, your friend, utilizing dual RAM sticks, will likely experience higher performance than you.

To reinstall your graphics card software utilizing DDU, follow these instructions:

1. Obtain the latest drivers from this link: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverRe...6780/en-us
2. Get DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) from: https://www.wagnardsoft.com/
3. Initiate your operating system in secure mode.
4. Disconnect your network connection.
5. Launch DDU and select “GPU” followed by "Nvidia".
6. Choose the “Clean & Reboot” option.
7. After your system restarts, install the downloaded GPU drivers. Avoid installing GeForce Experience during this process.
8. Restart your computer once more.
9. Reconnect your internet and verify the installation.

I initially believed performance was primarily determined by the amount of system RAM you possessed. I only have a single 16 GB stick, while another individual has two 8 GB sticks. Wouldn't that mean they would achieve a higher frame rate than me? I plan to follow your instructions and will report back to you soon.

Absolutely. Provided he possesses two memory sticks, his Random Access Memory operates in a Dual Channel configuration. Utilizing only one stick results in Single Channel operation, which diminishes performance. Consequently, it’s frequently advised to employ a set of two RAM sticks rather than just one.

I recognize this doesn’t pertain to your specific problem, as you previously achieved 300 frames per second and are now experiencing a reduction. Therefore, your RAM is unlikely to be the root cause; however, with two sticks operating in dual channel, your 300 fps would have likely reached 350.

Let's investigate whether reinstalling your graphics card drivers through DDU will resolve the problem.

What are the temperature readings for the central processing unit (CPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU) when the system is inactive and during gameplay?

I haven’t installed GeForce Experience, so I can't capture screenshots to monitor my processor and graphics card usage in real-time. While filming, I noticed that the CPU reached 83% and the GPU hit 49%. I’m uncertain about checking my temperatures outside of a gaming environment using MSI Afterburner.

Obtain HWINFO64 –
http://www.hwinfo.com/files/hwi_622.exe
Launch the application and select “Run sensors only”. The resulting display will contain the information you require. I am requesting your Central Processing Unit and Graphics Processing Unit temperatures when your computer is idle, as well as the temperatures exhibited during gameplay.
