He had some trouble with the old PC, so he bought a new one and left the previous one sitting around for two years. He took out the hard drive and handed it over with all the original components: this link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CSE0TVK/ref...eFbBRT7WEC. When he got it, he noticed it wasn’t working properly. Just by moving a cable, it would turn on. But sometimes it would start up and then stop, or it would take days to boot at all, needing the battery to be completely drained before it could begin again. He dealt with it intermittently for a few months.

My brother brought me a Corsair 750 PSU and some fans to test. I swapped out the old HDD and SSD, installed my Windows on the new SSD, and changed the BIOS battery. Still, nothing worked.

This week I finally gave in and replaced the motherboard and CPU. Today I installed the AMD RYZEN 5 3600 6-CORE and the ASUS ROG STRIX B450 F successfully. It still doesn’t boot.

I tried a different monitor to check if the issue was with the screen. When the PC powers up and the keyboard lights up, the display also brightens accordingly.

I’m really frustrated right now because I don’t know why it won’t start or at least show BIOS or Windows 10. There are no error messages. I removed some RAM I’d bought (had to switch from DDR3 to DDR4 with the motherboard), tried one stick or moved the sticks around, even removed the battery while unplugging and kept pressing power. I also tried the old PSU again, thinking it might be faulty. I reset all my cables. Even the light on the motherboard seems to be the source of the boot problem, but the troubleshooting steps didn’t help much.

Any advice would mean a lot to me.

Current specs:
Used to be:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CSE0TVK/ref...eFbBRT7WEC
Swapped motherboard with ASUS ROG STRIX B450 F
Installed CPU: AMD RYZEN 5 3600 6-CORE
Swapped PSU to Corsair X750
Replaced SSD with new one, added Vengeance RAM 8GB DDR4
Changed CMOS battery
Swapped HDD and SSD

I don’t really understand it unless the C drive is nonfunctional, but that shouldn’t prevent you from getting into BIOS. The two things I’m aware of that can block users from accessing BIOS are: the GPU not having integrated graphics and a faulty motherboard.

I hope the board came with the Ryzen 3000 desktop label already installed. Earlier models won’t fit.

From the link provided, it seems the ROG STRIX B450-Gaming motherboard works with your system, but you might need to update the BIOS. It’s a bit frustrating getting this far, but thanks for checking!

Well, it's all about having the right BIOS now. After the Ryzen 3000 came out, companies released newer boards from their 300 and 400 series, all equipped with the updated BIOS. These models usually show an orange 'Ryzen 3000 Desktop Ready' label on the packaging. But not everything is perfect—some older boards are still being sold alongside them, which means you might end up with one of those instead.

Have you considered placing the system outside the PC? The motherboard is resting on its case, the CPU, cooler, Corsair PSU, a RAM stick in channel A1, the GPU, and the C drive. You can jump start it if needed.

The monitor is connected to the GPU instead of the motherboard. I’m checking if the GPU might be faulty and wondering if my brother has a backup GPU to try. Since the Ryzen 3600 doesn’t have an integrated graphics card, a dead GPU would mean no display signal at all.
