Hey, I bought my PC back eight months ago and now I'm having this problem every time. After playing for a while, the screen goes black and the computer restarts up into Windows. The only signs I see are these errors: an error code 41 from Event Viewer about Kernel-Power, and another error code 193 in Reliability History about LiveKernelEvent. Here is what my machine looks like: Motherboard: MSI PRO B650-s with Wi-Fi CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Memory: Corsair 32GB running in a kit, speeds up to 5600MT/s CL40 RAM sticks are named Vengeance RGB Grey EXPO. The cooler is called Endorfy Fera. I have Storage: Apacer AS2280Q4X with 2TB hard drive and Power Supply: GIGABYTE P750GM. A few things to note: I've tried taking it to two different repair places, but they keep saying no reboot happens even after I swap the power supply. I checked my CPU temperature with a meter and hit a high point of 96 degrees C right before the restart, but normally when things are working fine, temps stay around 85 degrees. It doesn't look like overheating is the cause. Could you give me any advice or suggestions?
Those temperatures are really hot. You need to upgrade the fan on your PC. What kind of case do you have? Is there a mesh front or is it sealed? Gaming PCs need good cooling. Sealed cases make overheating happen easily. Can you send me a picture of your setup with the side panel taken off? Even though this makes sense, I think it's not likely what caused it. The PC ran fine while doing a stress test. When gaming and the system restarts, the temperature hits around 85 degrees Celsius. Also, the 7600x is supposed to run hotter than that, around 95 degrees Celsius.
No matter what you try, swap out that power supply. It's been causing all sorts of problems. Swapping it over could actually solve your problem right now.
What is the CPU temperature when nothing is doing? It shows 88 degrees while playing, but for me this feels too hot even with a good processor like the 7600X. Reviews say games should keep it around 70 to 75 degrees. Even though newer CPUs are meant to handle heat better, you have to think about how warm your room is. If your case sucks air and things get hotter over time, eventually the system might break.
Check the GPU, drive, chipset, and RAM temperatures in a tool like HWiNFO. Make sure everything stays within safe limits. For example, DDR5 memory can get unstable if it gets too hot, around 70 degrees is bad for some people. You could also try opening your case to see if it still crashes.
A system can be a little shaky so that it only crashes once in a while like after playing for two hours. This is frustrating because it's hard to figure out why since it takes a long time to happen again (I have seen posts where people say "it's fixed" but come back days later and say "oops, the crash happened yesterday"). It could be anything: RAM, CPU, motherboard, power supply, or GPU. But based on my experience, the RAM is usually the main problem. You can run a test like memtest86 or the built-in Windows memory tester to check it out too. I also use AIDA64 because it keeps both the CPU and memory busy while testing. Thanks for your message. The CPU is sitting at 45 degrees Celsius on a bare chip. I took the glass panel off and put in two fans: one small inside and one big outside. Both are blowing air. It still reboots just like it used to when I ran stress tests. Even after trying many tests, they all went fine without any issues.
If this only happens when gaming but not on stress tests (and the RAM passes), then it means the crash is linked to the GPU. Since your CPU/RAM likely don't need as much power during gaming, the issue might be with the GPU or its power supply unit. As John mentioned before, swapping the PSU for a stronger one could fix things. You can try something like the Corsair RM750X; if it still crashes, then you'll know the problem is definitely not the PSU.
I also tested my graphics card under heavy load with no crashes. Since I've already switched to a new power supply and the problem kept coming back, it's probably not about the power source at all.
Ryzen 5 7600X is getting hot at 95 degrees Celsius, so I think it slows down before that happens. Around 96 degrees, things get a little too warm and use more electricity, which makes the heat worse. I'm not sure if the motherboard's power protection reset the CPU because of this, especially if you turned off CPU throttling in BIOS. My graphics card shows up at 90 degrees Celsius with 200 watts, so I should check that 16-pin power cable for any damage or burnt marks. If there is a problem and the connection isn't good, then the card might be asking for too much power from the PC's bus; if it can't get enough, the motherboard will turn off the CPU to protect itself. There was no memory error or crash message recorded on my part.
