I've bought a pre-built PC and I keep having issues. It will randomly crash mainly when under heavy load (gaming or stress testing). Certain games don't crash such as Flight Sim, but CPU demanding games such as Cities Skylines do. When it crashes there's no BSOD, no error in event viewer - the screen, fans, RGB all stay on EXCEPT 1 stick of ram which goes completely blank as if it's been pulled out. On a couple of occasions it has briefly paused then come back and I've noticed something in Event Viewer along the lines of "Reset to device Raidport0 was issued". I've done multiple Memtests and it's been fine. I have just downloaded OCCT and it crashed after 10 minutes when performing the CPU+RAM test. I'm going to be doing more testing when I have a little bit more time. I will fix this right away, but since it's a factory-made box I don't have every single part ready I'll try my best. The computer suddenly shut down while I was running a memory test after 10 minutes. The RAM slot says XMP 3.0 on the sticker but I only see options for 1.0 or 2.0 in the BIOS menu. I'm wondering if this causes a problem with the motherboard.
After running OCCT tests with my PC multiple times, it froze on the memory test around ten minutes into the run. I took out one stick of RAM to check if that was the problem. With just one stick installed, the computer booted up and passed all the tests in OCCT. However, when I put only the second stick alone in, the PC wouldn't even start showing a blue screen—it didn't post at all. The fans kept spinning loudly without any light effects like RGB lights on them. When I plug both sticks back in together, they work fine for normal use until that specific memory test happens. Based on this, I'm pretty sure one of the RAM sticks is broken. Before I decide to start a warranty claim, does it make sense to explain all these steps and results?
If a computer breaks when you put in one stick but works perfectly if you swap it out with another one, that means you've found the right answer. When you test just by putting the sticks in alone, are you using exactly the same RAM slot for both of them?
I used the exact same slot, but this one was in the second spot on the left instead of the first on the right. I think checking the VRM temperature using the CPU-Z tool is a good idea. I will do it shortly.
If a RAM stick works fine but your computer crashes when you swap it with another one in the same slot, then this stick is bad. You need to replace both sticks because you can't mix sticks from different kits. CPU-Z doesn't show temperatures. Use HWiNFO for that.
I've already sent in my RAM to be swapped out while still under warranty, giving me a good chance that things will work fine once I get the fresh parts.
Did you bring back both sticks or just the first one? You need to swap them both so they match up, like a pair of matching socks, instead of having two sticks that don't fit together. Sticks made from different batches might not work well at high speeds if you try to overclock your system.
