My PC is still worse than it was before my upgrade.
I got new parts yesterday, like a faster processor and more memory, but I didn't wait until everything was ready. After installing Windows and drivers, I immediately ran a game called mw2 on my old PC. That old setup could get 130 to 150 fps when playing at full settings. But the new build is way slower; it only hits 110 to 120 fps. The difference is huge because of the new parts, which make the graphics card become the limit instead of the processor. Also, starting up the computer used to be quick now, but games launch slowly and run at a lower frame rate than before. I'm really worried something went wrong when I swapped out my components.
How are you checking these bottlenecks? Since it is a fresh start with all the components, make sure you have exactly the same settings before going live. Windows 11 should give you better performance on the E-cores if that's what you need. The 12900k will use way more power and likely run hotter, so check your clock speeds and temperatures closely. You also switched from standard DDR4 memory to what might be starting as DDR5, which could make things slower because of higher latency. Please confirm that XMP is turned on. I'm not sure why this specific upgrade would help much. The 11700k is already near the top speed for most games, so you'll probably only see a tiny bump in frame rates for older titles. For newer, very demanding games, you will still be limited by your graphics card settings instead of the processor. Why not go to a 13700k? It's basically like the 12900k but with more cache memory.
