Recently, I installed a new graphics card (MSI Radeon 480 8GB) and suspect my power supply unit (500W, purchased for €40) may be the issue. Welcome to the forums. Please post your complete system specifications including your PSU make and model (not just wattage). For example, Corsair CX450, not just Corsair 450W as this does not provide the model information. When you say crash, please describe exactly what happens: CTD? Restart? Do you have the latest drivers installed (including motherboard/chipset drivers)? Do you have the latest BIOS installed?
