My latest Ryzen 5900X, Aorus X570 pro, Corsair Vengence RGB Pro 3600, and performance issues.
PC configuration details. Ryzen 9 5900X paired with AMD Wraith Prism LED RGB cooler. Zotac Gaming GeForce RTX 2070 with blower. AORUS x570 pro (BIOS F34). Corsair Vengeance 64GB RGB Pro 3600. Intel SSDPEKNW010TB 1TB NVMe (boot). Intel SSDPEKKW512G7 512GB NVMe (Windows 10 Pro, version 21H1). GeForce driver 471.96 from AMD download on 01/08/2021. Display is a Dell S2716DG 2560 x 1440 at 144Hz with G-Sync. Performance drops noticeably in games like Assassins Creed Valhalla or Immortals Fenix Rising. Various fixes attempted: reseating components, adjusting GPU and RAM settings, changing driver versions, modifying RAM speed, using different RAM capacities, updating drivers, and tweaking BIOS options. Experimented with 16GB and 32GB RAM, XMP enabled/disabled, and even swapped RAM modules. Ran benchmarks under stress; issues persisted. Considered RMA for CPU and board. Updated software and hardware. Seeking advice from others who may have resolved this problem. This is my final effort before returning the item for repair. Update 05/09/2021. Changes made include switching RAM to GSkill Trident Z 3600, upgrading PSU, and testing on another machine. Used Assassins Creed Odyssey for clearer diagnostics. GPU and CPU both overheat simultaneously. If RMA isn’t an option, I’m at a loss. Any suggestions? Thanks, Finchy70
definitely not a good idea for that kind of CPU—definitely hitting thermal limits, I’m sure
The small cooler helps prevent damage, but for optimal performance you'll need a higher-quality one.
I've spent nearly a week trying to fix this configuration. I tested my RTX 2070 on my son's PC today and it runs smoothly in Assassins Creed Odyssey with over 80 frames at very high settings. This points the issue toward the board and CPU. I'm going back to my i7 8700 with an Aorus Z370 Ultra Gaming rig. The game runs steadily and FPS is solid again. This was my first experience with AMD in about eight years, and while I've heard great things about the Ryzen 9 CPU, I've seen many users online with similar problems and no answers. My Intel setups still work with occasional small adjustments. I've returned the board and CPU to the store and will keep my £700 investment, sticking with what I know works best.
It's disappointing you couldn't find a solution. I've been using AMD since before 939 and Conroe took over. My setup has been great. It feels even more dependable than my Intel systems. Nothing beats classic reliability. AlderLake is just nearby.
