My laptop won't follow my power choices
On my advanced power options in Windows 10, I have settings that tell the computer what to do when battery levels drop. There are low power and critical power levels. I've set everything to "Do Nothing." The battery level drops all the way down to 1%, then a few minutes later it powers off completely. This is bad because I had critical battery action also set to "Do Nothing." Why isn't it listening to my settings?
I don't need either of those options. I am trying to make the setting stay exactly as it is right now, so I should leave it alone. If you can't find this option there, maybe just let it be as it is.
How do you plan on running that laptop without any power left? If you simply stop using it, the battery will keep going until the plug is pulled out. That's a power cut. If there isn't a setting for this inside the computer (BIOS), then the factory makes sure to save energy by not cutting power early during the warranty. Even if they could change that software, there are physical wires inside the battery that force it to stop working at 2.5 volts per cell. At that voltage, the cells already get damaged and their life gets shorter, but you can still charge them back up safely. If you took all those safety stops out of the battery pack and drained it way too low before charging, a fire could start when you tried to put electricity in again. So yes, while there are rare times people might be okay turning a rechargeable cell into a trash bin, the maker doesn't want to risk fires or get sued if their charger's voltage check fails.
