My laptop turns on, but nothing shows up on the screen, and neither the keyboard nor the USB mouse works at all?
I bought a new MainGear Vector Pro laptop recently. It ran fine until last night when I moved from the U.S. to Europe because I had to change the wall plug for my European outlet. When I turn it on now, there is a low whirring sound as it starts. The power light turns on and stays lit, but the battery light stays dark. Some lights at the front of the laptop glow, but nothing else works: no screen shows anything, no mouse responds even though it's plugged in via USB, and the keyboard lights don't turn on or work. This happens whether I connect or disconnect the power. The laptop also seems to shut down and then restart again and again after being turned off. That is strange because everything worked perfectly last night. As usual, I left the lid closed when I finished using it. I tried different wall outlets, pulling cables apart and putting them back together, and even going back to the original AC cable. Nothing has helped yet. Any assistance would be very helpful! Here are my laptop's specs: AMD Ryzen 6000 series processor, Intel 12th Gen Core i9, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, 32GB of RAM running at 4800 MHz using a 230W adapter with a lithium polymer battery and an 8200mAh capacity (charged from three cells).
Welcome to the forums! Even though your laptop is unplugged from the wall, if it helps, take the bottom off the laptop and separate them. Take the battery out of the motherboard, remove the memory sticks, keep pressing down on the power button for 30 seconds just to be safe, then plug in the adapter (not the battery) to turn it on. If it doesn't start right away, shut it down again, unplug from the wall, and try running on the battery only. To make sure things make sense, could you please share a link to that specific cable?
Welcome to the forums, new guy! Even though the laptop is unplugged from the wall, if it's okay for you, take the bottom part off and unplug the battery from the motherboard. Press down on the power button for about 30 seconds so it loses all charge, then plug in just the adapter (not the battery). If the computer turns on a bit weirdly, turn it off completely, disconnect everything from the wall, put the battery back in, and try turning it on again with just that battery. For better understanding, could you share a link to the cable you're talking about?
Thanks for the warm welcome and thanks for the instructions! I'll try it, but I was worried that taking things apart would be needed. When I moved in a few years ago, there wasn't much space left for my stuff, so I didn't bring along my computer toolkit. I might need to get a new one, or maybe just find a small screwdriver here at this apartment somewhere. Here is the link to the power cord I bought: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002J1KTE
I tried these steps but I didn't get anything working: I took out the battery from my motherboard. I also unplugged some RAM sticks. Then I hit power on and kept holding it for thirty seconds to make sure everything shut down before turning back on. After that, I plugged in my laptop to a wall outlet and started it up. The fan started spinning, and lights near the front of the computer turned on, but after that there was nothing else happening.
Hi Lutfij. I tried what you told me and failed, then washed clothes, had lunch, and made the bed. Now I plugged the laptop into the wall AC and it works again. I don't know how magic you have, but thanks for it. Could you tell me why this happened so I can fix it next time? Also should I take this to the seller as a warranty issue? Many thanks!
Hey, could you please tell me what went wrong so I know how to fix it next time? Maybe your laptop needs a ground connection if that's what I meant by suggesting those steps. Basically, when you said "remove the memory," did you mean taking out the RAM sticks, right? Yes, removing the RAM is like taking the video card out too—I forgot to mention that one back then. You can't just reseat the sticks in their slots and plug it back in without the power supply; you need both the RAM and the adapter plugged in. Also, you won't get a signal (POST) on a laptop unless the RAM is actually inside there. You could try wiping out the contacts of those sticks with an eraser to make sure they're clean, then put them back in carefully. If you see black spots or dark marks on the contacts after using an eraser but it disappears when you wipe again, that usually means your environment is dusty or your wall outlet isn't grounded properly. Should this be fixed by the seller under warranty? I'd check if there are BIOS updates for the laptop too, though maybe the problem comes from no ground at the wall socket or a really static-filled room instead of the hardware itself. Most times people blame the computer when it's not actually the fault of the machine; usually, it's because you were in a bad environment or made a mistake while using it. I don't know what dark powers you have, but thanks for being here and sharing your story so others can learn too.
Titan !!! I am just a new person on this forum too, and it's funny because the problem Lutfij has was exactly what I typed into Google and it led me here right away. I immediately followed your instructions step by step and when I turned it back on with only the battery in, it booted right up after a few seconds of just a black screen. You are an absolute lifesaver. Thank you so much to Lutfij for posting this and thank you for fixing it quickly. This is my second gaming laptop that I've owned and my first time having the Vector Gear Pro. From the specs that Lutfij told me, I have the exact same laptop and have had it since the end of December. This is the very first time I've ever had this problem. Stay blessed! [SOLVED]
