My internet is stopping me from connecting every few seconds.
I am connected via ethernet, but a small picture on the bottom right of my screen keeps flipping between two logos: one that says "plugged in" and another that shows a globe with a line through it. The globe means no internet connection, while the plug-in logo means there is internet access. Every time they switch, it tells me "no internet" just to warn me about losing connectivity. This has been really annoying because my games cut off all the time. Sometimes I'm playing on YouTube and that little dinosaur pops up saying "No Internet." It's so frustrating. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
Change your post to show all system hardware and OS details. Make sure only one network card is turned on, either a wire or wireless one. Is it just on your computer? What about other networks? Any wired or wireless things going off? Try swapping in a working ethernet cable that you know works between your computer and the router. Turn off IPv6. Check Reliability History and Event Viewer for any error codes, warnings, or even messages right before or when things stop working. Run "ipconfig /all" (no quotes) using Command Prompt. Copy all the results here.
I changed my signature with my technical details. I am running Windows 11. I checked and made sure there was only one ethernet adapter turned on. My router is just a random one I bought from my internet company. The problem seems to show up only on my computer, not on other laptops in our house. I think about getting a new ethernet cable because mine is a CAT5e type. What happens if we turn off IPV6? I will talk about that later. We have been having ping problems with some games for a while now. With Rocket League and my friend, both of us sometimes lag or not the other one depending on which game it is. Some days he has good ping and I am the one with bad ping (or vice versa). I started to think maybe our ISP is causing this if we both lag at the same time, but as I said its only some games that are slow for us both sometimes. It's fine to play some games and we both have great connection on those days too.
You might want to try a brand new type of wire for your internet connection. I don't need to tell you that's usually better than using what you already have.
That's exactly where I usually begin my journey. The general rule is that the spot touching things is the most likely place to break down. Since network cables are what people touch and mess with (plugging them in, unplugging them, walking on them, even dogs chewing on them), they're the most common point of failure.
