My i7 6700k just wont oc
Hey guys, i need the same help. I tried to optimize my i7 6700k on my asus z170 pro today, but no matter what i adjusted in bios, it didn’t change. When checking in windows with cpu-z and core temp, it still shows 4000mhz and voltage fluctuations. I set profile to XMP, synced all cores, multiplier at 45, voltage manual at 1.325v, saved everything and it worked. Now i’m confused and i don’t know what to do next. Any suggestions?
Well that's the next odd part. I switched to manual mode in BIOS with a voltage of 1.325, but CPU-Z shows no stable reading—fluctuating between 1.35 and 1.41, dropping to around 1.34 under stress. It shouldn't go higher than what I set, but it seems to drop lower when idle. Maybe a clean CMOS and another manual OC try would help, especially since hitting 1.4V at 1.325 doesn't make sense.
Also keep in mind, XMP may increase the base clock, causing the multiplier to boost speeds beyond its usual effect.

Well i double checked my whole bios and found an Option called "turbo mode" which i set to enabled and now its working.. confusing because literally no other person on the internet had to enable that option to make oc work
Turboboost generally does a moderate overclock, not enable overclocking. but hey if it works and the voltages are reasonable, then no harm done.
