My graphics card and processor are not being fully utilized while playing games.
I’ve repeatedly wondered why my CPU and GPU aren't consistently reaching their maximum potential. I attempted numerous solutions:
* I experimented with overclocking my graphics card.
* I set my computer to its highest performance setting.
* I updated all of my drivers.
* I minimized background applications to reduce CPU usage.
* And I tried several other methods that have slipped my memory.
My system specifications are as follows:
GPU: ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1070 Ti with 8GB of GDDR5 memory
CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 at 3.5GHz
STORAGE: A 1TB WD Blue (HDD) and a 240GB WD Green (SSD)
RAM: 8GB Hyper Fury X at 1600MHz, plus 4GB Kingston 1333MHz (operating at 1600MHz)
MOBO: ASUS H81M-K
PSU: Thermaltake Smart 650W, 80+ Bronze certified
I’m experiencing this issue currently while playing “Hat in Time.” Resource utilization is consistently around 50% for the GPU and 50-60% for the CPU. I recognize that my i5 processor isn't a strong match for my GTX 1070 Ti, but my budget limited my initial component choices. The game runs at approximately 200 frames per second occasionally, often settling around 120. However, during more demanding scenes or those with expansive environments, the GPU drops to roughly 10% lower utilization, and the CPU remains at 50%. This results in a frame rate decrease of about 40-60 FPS, primarily around 60. Is this due to poor game optimization – specifically considering it utilizes Unreal Engine 3? It seems frustrating for me. Temperatures remain between 45-50°C for both the GPU and CPU during gameplay.
Don’t consistently push your processor to its limits, and the mismatched memory configuration isn’t providing any benefit. Invest in a 2x8GB RAM set using the quickest speed available within your budget; this will improve your frame rates.
