Hey, I’ve been using PUBG for a while and have been noticing my FPS is low. I know it’s not a high-end PC, but I thought I’d get more performance. Usually I stay under 50 fps, and reaching 70 feels off. Even when I set everything to low, it doesn’t really help. My specs are: AMD Ryzen 3 1200 @ 3.8GHz, Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming RAM, 2x4GB Kingston, AMD Radeon HD 7970 with 3GB, Western Digital WD10EZEX 1TB, and Windows 10. I thought it might be the hard drive or maybe not enough RAM. The PC feels slow, especially when using Chrome, and I’ve had the HDD for almost two years now—maybe that’s the issue? Thanks.

It might be the hard drive or RAM; 16GB works well for most activities.

Boost your RAM and CPU speed to over 3.9GHz will help smooth out the lag in pubg. This won’t affect your GPU, and lowering other settings won’t make a difference. The issue lies in how the game handles loading levels.

It's not the hardware issue, it's just the game... still in early stages from indie developers.

Regarding the terrain, I've played on the test server. Apparently they made the terrain less demanding on ram. It def is smoother, but even then. I know that the PC is good enough, so I guess get a better HDD since it's pretty old + more ram if possible I guess? Not sure if I can OC it that much tbh.

Currently tight on funds but I’m willing to try. I planned to replace the HDD, so I’ll likely buy a used 240GB SSD around $80 and maybe improve the cooling system.

The cooler should cost less than what you have now. The SSD will speed up your Windows boot time and is very useful, but it won’t improve game performance. There’s no real benefit from faster loading into matches—those are the only advantages it offers. I’m not discouraging you from getting an SSD, but don’t expect a better gaming experience from it.

Absolutely understanding, this drive is nearing its end. Back in my day I used a 512GB SSD and it really helped with performance, especially during games. But I'm keeping an eye on things—maybe I won't stick around with this setup after all.
