In March 2019, I purchased new PC components and initially experienced optimal performance. However, over time, the system’s performance has gradually decreased, resulting in a significant reduction in frames per second – approximately 60 to 80 fps less—in all games.

My PC specifications are as follows: Intel Core i7-7700k, Gigabyte 1080 G1 Gaming motherboard, 2x 8GB HyperX RAM (model currently unknown), 1TB Samsung SSD, 1TB Seagate HDD, case-supplied coolers and a Cooler Master CPU cooler (model currently unknown), a 660W power supply (model currently unknown). Previously, with new components, games such as GTA 5 ran smoothly at approximately 120 fps on maximum settings including MSAA x8. Currently, with identical settings and MSAA levels reduced to x2 or disabled, frame rates are typically between 70 and 50 fps, and this performance degradation is consistent across all games. Increasing settings beyond the lowest possible levels yields only marginal improvements in frame rates—approximately 5 fps at best. I have performed malware scans, thoroughly cleaned dust buildup, and recently conducted a fresh Windows installation to rule out software-related issues. Temperature monitoring indicates acceptable levels, though detailed historical data was not recorded. Attempts to overclock the GPU or CPU consistently result in crashes and freezes, particularly when playing graphically demanding games like Far Cry 5. However, the system functions without issue and does not crash when no overclocking is applied. It’s somewhat frustrating that my PC has superior specifications compared to many of my friends, yet their systems consistently deliver higher frame rates on similar or better configurations.

That is a pretty poor PSU, not to mention the model is a few years old and when it came out it was not great as well. While it covers your PC wattage wise, I would not trust it. It may not be the root reason for your performance drops but it is something I personally would not put in my system. Consider getting a new PSU, something like this should be good:

Download DDU as well, and redownload your GPU drivers. What are your temps.

What is the make and model of your power supply? If it runs adequately without overclocking, it may be due to temperature or the power supply itself.

The power supply unit is 800 watts and it’s a Thermaltake Model: LT-800AL2NL.

That is a substandard PSU, and the model is several years old and was not well-regarded at its release. Despite meeting your PC’s wattage requirements, I would not recommend using it. It may not be the cause of your performance issues, but it’s an item I personally would avoid in a system. Consider acquiring a new PSU such as this: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Wx...-f...9020194-na. Additionally, download DDU and redownload your GPU drivers. What are your temperatures?
