My friend is assembling a pc and I'm helping him on Discord. I thought it would be a great experience, but it turned out to be very frustrating. We believed we were ready by buying used parts, but we overlooked many items and didn't read them thoroughly. Additionally, the case arrived broken due to shipping issues.
Parts selected:
5600x (used, not listed as broken on eBay)
Thermaltake toughpower gf1 850 gold (used, came with cables also not marked as broken on eBay)
MSI b550 pro vdh wifi (used from Amazon)
G skill ripjaws 3600 2x8gb (new from Amazon)
Merc 319 6900 xt (used, eBay didn't list it as broken)
WD black Sn850 (used on eBay as well)
After assembling the pc, we accessed the BIOS. Everything looked fine initially, with no shutdowns. However, once we exited the BIOS, it started looping. The furthest we reached was the Windows setup via USB, which also began looping. We assumed it was the BIOS version, updated it, and managed to progress further. When we went to the Windows first-time screen, selecting an office program caused the system to turn black and loop again. I’m not sure what to do next. We tried resetting the CMOS battery by removing and reinserting it, testing RAM one stick at a time for faulty memory, and updating the BIOS. I searched through hundreds of online posts but didn’t find a solution. Is the motherboard, CPU, RAM, GPU, SSD, or something else faulty? Please help me out.
So, the only reliable part in your nearly cooked but still alive system is your RAM. The best way to fix such a problem is to test each component on a known good machine. A faulty component could harm your computer, so proceed with caution. All electronics on eBay are slightly damaged, though not completely dead. The Ryzen 5 5600x has a RAM speed cap of 3200mhz; you can push it up to 3600mhz, but the performance boost is minimal compared to any instability risks. A 11% increase would only yield about a 1.1% improvement in overall performance, which isn’t worth the trade-off. For better results, opt for RAM with superior CL/CAS timings. If you achieved a significant gain from overclocking via XMP, I’d support that approach. Also, to diagnose the issue properly, we’d need to check MB beeps or error codes before proceeding. If you’re running Windows, there could be several factors at play—such as incorrect GPU drivers, a faulty PSU, or an SSD malfunction. With so many variables and limited details, it’s hard to pinpoint the cause. You didn’t mention anything about the CPU cooling system.
I didn't include the RAM in any XMP profile for testing, which means it's running around 2100 MHz but keeps looping. I don't know how to make the motherboard sound. I also don't have any spare parts to check each component. My stock Wraith cooler from the 5600X is working fine—thermal paste thickness is about a grain of rice, and the CPU fan is spinning. I'm not sure what's causing it to shut down after reaching that speed.
That maybe too little a thermal paste, if that size, I'd make 5 dots pattern.
But you can get into bios yes ? Leave it idle in bios in the Fan/Temps screen (Advanced).
If CPU idles above 45C you have a problem.
Things that cause reboots & crashes: faulty PSU, faulty GPU, faulty CPU, high Temps., damaged MB.
