My friend is going through a tough time and could use some support.
I understand I should ask for help on the Microsoft forums, but they're taking a long time to reply. So I tried here instead. My friend bought a PC without an operating system, got a Windows 10 key, but didn't know how to activate it. He took it to a technician who installed pirated Windows 10 Pro and now he wants to remove the pirate version and activate his real key. But the error 0xc004f050 appears, saying the key isn't valid. Help please!
The technician likely acquired an inexpensive key from a gray-market source, similar to your friend. Are you noticing any real issues with the "pirated" Windows version?
Your friend uses a Windows 10 Pro version, possibly for home or professional use. It seems the key might already be active on another device. You could reach out to the key seller and inform them the key isn't valid. Some grey market sellers might provide a fresh, working license. I’m using Windows 10 Pro x64 and have been activated with a key from Kinguin (grey market) for $40 USD. It worked fine after activation, though I initially needed to run the Windows 10 Activation Troubleshooter. I’ve reinstalled twice and now it activates via a digital license in my Microsoft account. If the vendor gives you a secure, uncompromised key, follow their activation steps. Just open Winkey+S, select Help, then type "Windows 10 Activation Troubleshooter" in the AI chat and complete the prompts.
