My friend recently purchased a brand new laptop six months ago, and it performed flawlessly for about two months. However, after installing a GeForce or Intel driver update, the performance issues began. Now, whenever he plays games, they either crash immediately or stop midway through. Neither of us can pinpoint the exact problem, but sometimes he manages to play for extended periods without crashes, only to experience repeated failures.

He has encountered various errors such as "d3d hung" and messages like "your video card does not support alpha blending with floating point render targets (d3dfmt_a16b16g16r16f), which is required to run this game." When his games crash, other applications like Discord become unresponsive, and restarting the game results in a fatal error message that prevents it from starting again. He has no choice but to forcefully shut down the system to get it back online.

Additionally, he can play other games without issues—like Dead by Daylight—while his favorite game, Smite, keeps crashing in loops. He also struggles with running the userbenchmark test because GPU tests would fail repeatedly, requiring restarts after each update or driver change. The laptop’s specifications are as follows:

Manufacturer: Acer
Model: Predator PH317-53
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59GHz
RAM: 16.0GB (15.8GB usable)
System type: 64-bit OS, x64-based processor
Graphics card: Rtx 2060

The issue has been addressed on the Microsoft Answers site. Refer to the previous advice. Should this not resolve the matter, your colleague may need to revert any modifications and reinstall Windows.

He has reinstalled Windows multiple times, updated older versions of Nvidia and Intel drivers repeatedly, same issue again. :/

Remove both Intel and nVidia drivers, then use DDU to erase them. Visit the Acer support page and install the chipset and Intel drivers first, followed by the nVidia drivers. Also check for a BIOS update afterward. Avoid downloading drivers from the nVidia website. For laptops, stick to drivers provided by the system manufacturer only.

He just decided to play Fall Guys for a while, then at 3 p.m. he sees his grandma in the hospital and later has to go to the farm.
