I usually wait until issues arise or I need a major upgrade—since it holds about 20TB of storage—I question if the effort and downtime are worth it.
I’d clean the side panel periodically, removing dust without taking anything out. A thorough dust removal would suffice.
Doing occasional will make the task much easier than waiting until you have a problem. Once you have a problem, then you need to tear the whole machine down to clean and fix it. Personally, I'd ather spend 5 minutes every few months than a day or two later.
