Hey
I recently switched from a 7900XTX to a Gigabyte 4090 and I’m finding it quite challenging...
I’m struggling with getting solid frames and think there might be a configuration issue...
I’m unsure whether the problem lies with the RAM or if I should upgrade my motherboard, but I’m open to any advice.

I shared this because I watched some benchmark videos of this GPU on "the finals" at 1440P low settings—it ran over 300fps without any frame drops.
Here are the details:
- AMD Ryzen 9 7950X with ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 360
- Gigabyte RTX 4090 WINDFORCE 24G
- 32GB RAM Kingston DDR5 6000MHz CL36
- MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI
- Intel P660 SSD plus several HDDs and SSDs
I’ve attached some footage from my "The Finals" gameplay recorded with OBS, but performance didn’t improve when I wasn’t recording.

I’m really hoping to fix this since I invested a lot in this setup and it’s not meeting expectations.

after deleting the AMD RX, did you execute DDU in Windows Safe Mode to erase all driver and graphical information, followed by installing the newest Nvidia driver update? you wish to ensure no AMD driver remains. have you considered reinstalling the game? the compiled shader data for games can vary between AMD and Nvidia cards.

I completed all the requested actions!
A new Windows installation could be possible.
There may be differences between Windows 11 and Windows 10.
I'm currently using Windows 10.
Additionally, HPET is turned off, GPU acceleration is disabled, the Xbox GameBar is off, and Resize BAR and XMP are enabled.

11 has a lot more built-in background noise than expected. I've used it several times and really prefer 10. Was the AMD card performing better? Or were you also having trouble with performance? Check if the kit is listed in the motherboard QVL and ensure modules are installed in DIMMs A_2 & B_2.

never rely on YouTube videos for hardware speed.
keep in mind these are created to attract attention, most will try to get more clicks and can't be considered reliable facts.
look for genuine GPU performance reviews or comparisons from trusted sites, such as Tom's, to accurately assess hardware.

When you're trying to push frame rates by lowering graphics settings the video card doesn't particularly matter a whole lot. The CPU determines the maximum frame date that can be possible. This article does a good job of explaining how the CPU can come into play (there's also a video version on
Hardware Unboxed
):

I'm not familiar with the performance profile of
The Finals
but it's entirely possible your CPU and somewhat high latency memory are coming into play here.

@Nosphere
Provide make and model of PSU: wattage, age, condition (original to build, new, used, refurbished)? Check history of heavy gaming use - correct?
= = = =
Several built-in Windows utilities can help assess system performance.
Task Manager, Resource Monitor, Performance Monitor.
Another option is Process Explorer (Microsoft, free). You might need to download it.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysint...s-explorer
Test all four tools one at a time.
Run each tool after the system starts. Open the window and observe.
Once everything stabilizes, keep the window open but move it to a viewing area.
Continue working and/or gaming while monitoring the tool.
Notice any changes in performance or stability.
Finding a suitable method will require some experimentation.

I'm trying to express gratitude!
I'm using a Seasonic Vertex GX-1000 80+ Gold that I purchased two months ago along with the 4090!
