Hi, I have an HP Pavilion Gaming laptop with: 16GB RAM, Intel Core i7-10750H at 2.60GHz and a nVidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q graphics card. I am having trouble because my CPU is always too hot and the fans are spinning all the time. This started right after I restarted my laptop. It happened weeks ago, but recently my screen just showed a Windows notification saying it needed a force restart (it was too fast to read properly). After that forced restart, my laptop was much quieter. I was running games like WoW and Hearthstone at the same time and my CPU temperature dropped nicely down to about 75°C. Now I had to restart my laptop because of a driver install, but after it started overheating again, the fans just kicked up immediately and the CPU stays around 90 degrees hot all the time. The CPU is using only 1% to 5% while the temp hits 90°C. My computer was cleaned recently and I put new thermal paste in. The PC guy checked everything inside and said it looks fine. Everything was good thirty minutes ago, but after the restart the CPU temps just won't go down lower. I guess something is doing this process somehow.
The first picture shows how the CPU gets used up when it's very hot. The second picture shows what happens when it reaches 100 degrees Celsius. I can't send pictures because they get flagged as spam. Here is Picture One and Picture Two: Edit: I turned off the Windows Update service from services.msc. Looking at Task Manager, if Windows Update is running at the top of your list, maybe that's why things went wrong?
