My computer is getting too hot
I have a ASUS M5A78L-M LE/USB3 motherboard paired with an AMD FX-8350 processor. When I tried to speed up my CPU from 4.0GHz to 4.2GHz, it stayed stuck at the original 4.0GHz after just a few minutes of stress testing. The temperature got super hot around 55C and then I saw a blue screen that forced my computer to restart. When I checked the BIOS again, the CPU clock went back down to 4.0GHz. I ran another test, but now my motherboard was at 60C and slowly climbing to 65C in about fifteen seconds. Then, as soon as the stress ended, my CPU slowed down to just 1.5-1.7GHz and I had to stop testing right away. What could be wrong?
I think you are smart to throw your FX-8350 computer away. It is basically useless for games now. Your processor only handles one thing at a time, and its score was 1565. The r3-3100 would do better with a score of 2442. I don't think you should buy an old B450 board. You'll need new RAM that uses DDR4. A two-8GB stick running at 2666 speeds costs around $50. But Ryzen needs good RAM to work fast, so plan for something better. However, try a newer Intel chip instead. The $110 i3-10100 is a better gaming choice with...
The issue is your hardware. Cheap AM3+ motherboards are known for taking 125W CPUs too hard. Many people have trouble even running them at normal settings, and some boards burn out quickly because you're likely pushing voltage limits too far unless this is old gear just used for fun. The best move is to stop trying to overclock and accept that stock performance isn't bad enough to cause damage.
