A year ago, my Christmas gift was a refurbished office computer with respectable hardware and a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti installed. Initially, it performed well – I achieved 30-60 frames per second at maximum settings on Watchdogs 2 in 1080p, and most other games maintained 60fps or higher at max settings. However, recently, I’ve experienced significant stuttering and frame rate drops below 60fps across all games. Even with Watchdogs 2 set to the lowest possible settings and a reduced resolution, I’m only averaging around 25fps. Furthermore, despite expecting at least 60 frames per second on high settings for The Forest, I consistently encounter stuttering even with the graphics lowered. As a relative novice when it comes to computer hardware, I’ve spent considerable time researching potential solutions online, but nothing has been effective. If anyone could provide guidance or assistance, I would be very grateful. Below are my PC specifications:

GeForce gtx 1050 ti
i5 3470
2x4gb 1600mhz memory ddr3
930gb hdd
500w psu

I'm happy to provide additional information about any other components if required.

How are you calculating the need for a minimum of 60 frames per second for the forest scene?

Certain games suffer from poor optimization, even if their visuals appear low quality.

If you suspect your hardware is the problem, monitor your temperatures and observe if any performance limitations are occurring. Alternatively, verify that you have the latest drivers installed. Consider reinstalling the game entirely. There are numerous potential causes, and any game running below your display’s refresh rate will likely result in pauses.

Could you explain the reasoning behind expecting a minimum of 60 frames per second for the forest scene?

Certain games suffer from poor performance optimization, even when their visuals aren't particularly low-resolution. If you suspect your hardware is the problem, monitor your temperatures and look for signs of performance reduction due to overheating. Alternatively, update your drivers or attempt a complete reinstall of the game. There are numerous potential causes, and any game running below your monitor’s refresh rate will likely result in pauses or interruptions.
