My AC charger is keeping turning off by itself.
I own a HP Omen 15 from 2022 and it won't charge right when I play games. If I start gaming, the AC charger only works for about five minutes then stops, and the laptop switches off on battery power. To get it charging again, I have to unplug the charger from the wall, not just from the laptop, or it will never charge again which feels really weird. I've used this laptop a lot since buying it, but I thought the battery would last much longer than now. Before that, I used a low-power charger for months which might have damaged the battery, though I'm not sure about that; my new charger is definitely okay and passed the AC adapter test. I tried many different fixes online but nothing worked at all. Could you help? It's really frustrating too. Also, could anyone tell me how to check if the battery needs replacing?
Hello there! I used a charger with too low wattage before for a few months. It might have hurt my battery. But this new one is fine, and it passed the AC plug test. What adapter did you use? Yes, that could be the problem. If your laptop still acts up after that, maybe you need to send it back for repair because the old adapter didn't work well on the motherboard's power supply.
sorry for the slow reply. My BIOS got updated, but I thought my laptop could use a 120w adapter so maybe that broke something. The warranty is already expired anyway. What's strange is that sometimes it stays connected for days, but other times it unplugs from the power when I game in minutes. That really bothers me because if it was just broken hardware, it should always work the same way. honestly, I don't know enough about laptops to explain this better.
I am testing a new thing right now. When I turn down the power of my graphics card using MSI Afterburner, the problem goes away. This makes me wonder if the adapter on my laptop is still the wrong one. My laptop says 200 watts but I think it's not the original charger.
