I tried raising my i9-9900k on a rog maximus hero xi to 5.0GHz but it was too hot. So I went back to the default settings and reset the CMOS. But now the core speed shows as 4.7 MHz instead of what I wanted. Before I did this, the temperature was normal while gaming around 30s to 50s. After resetting everything though, the temperature is getting up to 90s right now when playing games, just like it was after the overclocking attempt. Almost all my bios settings are set to auto mode. Can you help me?

Look at a few ASUS motherboard settings like auto-oc features; sometimes you can turn things on or off depending on what they need. It might be better to switch them back to disabled too. You should also check the VRAM setting and make sure it's set to Auto instead of something else.

Press a button to clear your memory settings so they start over. Check the manual on your board for more details.

You might want to look at a few auto-oc settings on your ASUS motherboards if they are enabled or turned on. Changing them all the way back off could be good too. It's also smart to check and make sure that Vcore is set to Auto as well.
