I move my mouse a lot when using a computer. It's always been fine, but now with the new Logitech MX Vertical it keeps slipping every time I pick it up. I'm trying to find a better way to place it or something to prevent it from sliding. Anyone have ideas?

It means the object moves slightly when you grasp it.
This happens because the grip isn't secure enough to hold it firmly.

I grab it, and it begins to drop from my hand. If I didn't put it back in, it would fall out after a few seconds.

It seems like the mouse might not be the best option due to its odd form. You might need to accept a more conventional style that feels comfortable to hold while lifting.

And I will inquire about the cause for lifting the mouse. That is, what factors or needs prompt its movement?

If the mouse slips, consider using a lighter model or one with a distinct design. Perhaps something wider at the top, with a textured side or indentations for your fingers.
I experienced similar problems with a madcatz rat 7, which is mostly metal and weighs 132 g—quite heavy for a mouse. The smooth surfaces make it easy to see why it tends to slip out of hand.
It seems the issue might be that the desk space isn’t wide enough to move across the entire surface without shifting position. Or maybe there’s a preference for keeping it in a particular spot, like the center of the mousepad.

It might simply be the circumstances that explain the matter, without any disagreement.
The mouse slipping or being dropped appears to result from picking it up.
To my view, the necessity of grabbing and relocating the mouse seems to be the main concern.
Still, I will wait for the OP to provide their explanation.
