Hey there, my setup has been running smoothly for around 30 months now! I’ve got a Ryzen 5 1600 with two 8GB RAM sticks, a Crucial Ballistix 2666mhz DDR4 memory, and the MSI GTX 1070 gaming GPU. The power supply is a B350 PC Mate Mainboard with a 450W adapter. Recently, I swapped out the case and installed a water cooler for the first time. Getting the cooler out of the CPU was tough, but I managed – the CPU stayed intact and didn’t show any damage. Everything checked out at startup, and it booted normally.
The temperatures were a bit erratic. It would drop to around 27°C, then jump back up to 33-34°C or so, settling around 26-27°C again. Overclocking was disabled, but I tried to force it back up. I set the clock to 38.00 and adjusted the CPU voltage to 1.350, matching what I had before adding the cooler. However, the PC would shut down completely and attempt to boot again – this happened 3-4 times. Eventually, it would reset the clock frequency to normal and boot fine.
I also ran AMD Ryzen Master, which I hadn’t used before, but it worked. I was able to set the clock to 3.800, and after a reboot it appeared in Task Manager but didn’t show up normally. Testing Cinebench showed different results depending on the clock speed and the software setting. Temperature spikes seemed mostly during idle mode. At 3.8GHz they jumped from 32°C to around 44°C before dropping back down.
The issue I’m facing is that manually adjusting the clock caused problems – even when setting it to 3.2GHz, the system would restart multiple times before stabilizing. I’m really confused about what’s going wrong. The 450W power adapter seems sufficient, but I’m still struggling to get it to work consistently. I’m hoping someone can help me figure out what’s causing these hiccups. Thanks in advance!
I’d look into your BIOS for extra power configurations or restrictions. I don’t use RyzenMaster; it’s full of unnecessary features. HWINFO64 is the only tool I rely on for real clock data; Task Manager doesn’t give accurate results. My experience shows 1.350v is too low—my 1500x needs about 1.375v to keep 3.7GHz across all cores. My 2600x runs at 1.4v with 4.1GHz all-core. I’d set default BIOS settings and then carefully adjust frequency and power controls. You’ll also see 'CPU Features' in MSI BIOS advanced settings, where things like AMD CoolQuart settings are concealed. The main point is 450W isn’t enough with this setup and the AI O pump in play.
It seems the issue isn't with the PC itself but possibly the power source. The problem persists even after saving changes and trying to set default settings in the BIOS. The repeated startup attempts before a stable boot suggest something about the power connection or adapter might be the cause.
