Multiplayer game sessions are frequently and suddenly freezing.
Hi there!
Yesterday I was able to play games – COD Warzone, Path of Exile, and WoW – without any problems. However, today things went wrong as soon as I tried to launch them. The game immediately crashed back to my desktop, just like pressing Alt+F4. This happened with every single one of the titles.
Just before each crash, my CPU usage spiked up to nearly 100%, jumping from around 10-20%. After the game returned to its normal state, it would revert back to that lower level. What’s strange is that the severity of the crashes seemed linked to how many other players were in the login area for each game. For instance, when I was in World of Warcraft with lots of people around – specifically in a major city – the entire screen froze and my system crashed; I had to force shut down my PC. In two other games, it only crashed after seeing just a few characters, but thankfully it simply returned me to the desktop.
I tested this myself by playing each game alone—starting with the trial versions or initial areas without any other players nearby—and they never crashed until another random player appeared and triggered a crash. I’ve run several stress tests on my CPU and GPU, checked my RAM thoroughly, and everything appears to be working correctly. I even disabled my antivirus software, but that didn't make a difference. Changing my internet connection also had no effect.
I’m really stumped about what could be causing this! Any ideas how to fix it? I honestly just want to play single-player games and don’t want to deal with these issues.
Here are my specs:
CPU: i7 7700k
GPU: ASUS Strix 1080Ti OC
PSU: 750 Watts, RM750X
RAM: 32 gigs (4x8), 3200mhz G.Skill
It seems like there might be a problem with your network connection. I’m guessing you can still play games offline without any issues, and it's only when playing online that they crash. It doesn’t seem to be related to your computer hardware itself.
What has changed recently?
Specifically, have you made any adjustments to:
* Your computer firewall
* The firewall on your router
* Anything with your internet service provider?
Those are just some possibilities based on the information we have so far.
I’d disabled the computer firewall and antivirus software. Then, I switched my internet source from the home router to my phone's mobile router—still no luck. It wasn’t working at all, so I started troubleshooting, but that didn’t help. I even tried with two different routers, and nothing changed. Similarly, when I tested with two separate ISPs, there was still no success.
Yes, those offline games work perfectly. I tested them using both an Ethernet connection and Wi-Fi, and got the exact same outcome.
