MSI Z590 fails to start when using an SSD in the third M.2 port.
It might stem from a lack of enough PCIe lanes, usually seen when connecting an M.2 device to a PCIe slot. This is the first time I noticed RAM involved. Have you placed the SSD in different M.2 slots to check for issues? Try swapping it with another SSD into the third slot to see if the problem persists. A faulty M.2 drive could disrupt essential circuits and stop the system from starting. Let me know if this helps.
Are there any disks connected to the SATA ports? According to your manual, SATA2 won’t work during installation of an M.2 SATA SSD in the M2_2 slot. **SATA5 and SATA 6 won’t function when installing an M.2 SSD in the M2_3 slot.**
Both storage units are functioning properly. The Samsung drives fit into a m.2 case and are detected by the system. I placed the boot drive in slot 3 but it doesn’t start. I didn’t use slot 1 because it’s labeled for the 11th generation only. I don’t have any traditional SATA drives—just these two M.2 units.
I acquired the computer without the GPU and AIO from Facebook Marketplace for $140 since it wouldn’t boot. I might place an order for a second M.2 external SSD while searching for a deal on an 11th generation CPU or switching to a newer board and processor. The biggest expense so far has been the MSI AIO, as I funded it using funds from a work health program for the GPU.
Ah, ok. Well, looks like you got what you paid for. That’s a good computer for the price. You could get a pcie m2 card for a few bucks to hold any additional data drives (those don’t like to boot). For example: https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-NVMe-PCIe...798&sr=8-3 There are x16 adapters that support 4 drives as well. You have to be a bit more careful there to make sure it fits your application - some of the cards only work in certain type systems.
Thank you for your feedback. I understand your concerns about the AIO installation. I plan to revise it and explore alternative options. Appreciate your input!
