MSI X99A overclock help
So even though I'm not completely new to overclocking, I'm still a beginner. I've only ever done it on the ASUS Crosshair Formula Z with an 8350 and 9590 CPU.
My current configuration uses an Intel I7 6850 and an MSI X99A SLI plus board, which is completely unfamiliar to me.
I only came across a few short tutorials on YouTube, and they mostly covered adjusting the multiplier and voltage while leaving everything else on Auto, which might explain the crashes I was experiencing at around 4.2 GHz.
The stock performance is normal, and the Auto OC button in the BIOS works well up to 3.9 GHz, so the hardware seems fine.
Anyone who knows about this BIOS/board might have a helpful link or some tips?
I’m aware that this chip isn’t stable above 4.4 GHz in any recent reviews, so I’m just aiming for 4.3 or higher.
My current specs are: Intel 6850K, MSI X99A SLI plus, Corsair H110 CPU cooler, Cougar 1200W 80+ PSU, 32 GB Corsair vantage DDR4 3200 (currently at 2400 in the BIOS).
Thank you very much ahead of time.
What CPU voltage was used? Have you considered raising it?
I was using around 1.35v, which was slightly higher than others had at 4.4 in reviews. Temperatures stayed below 75°C, and the system ran for about three hours at 95% load. It seemed to function properly for a while before random shutdowns occurred, which were fixed by resetting the BIOS defaults.
My best guess is that leaving all other features enabled might have contributed to the issue. That’s why I’m asking someone who has overclocked this board first.
