I just finished assembling my Ryzen system using the MSI X570 gaming plus and two Crucial MX500 1TB M.2 cards. The top slot powers on but fails to recognize either drive in BIOS/OS. Both work fine in the lower slot. My main problem is that I can’t install the M.2 heat sink because the holes aren’t properly drilled. MSI suggested using a beta BIOS they sent, but it didn’t fix the issue. They promised 24-48 hours for a response and haven’t replied since I mentioned the update didn’t work. Anyone else have suggestions? While waiting, I tried their phone support, who said the MX500 isn’t compatible with my board despite both fitting in the lower slot. I found an Amazon review mentioning the same problem, and they took two weeks to fix it. Edit: It seems I was partly at fault for missing the obvious. (Neither MSI nor tech support helped.) I’m feeling a bit lost... But they did suggest an RMA for the incomplete hole. A high-res image I found showed the hole was completed. That doesn’t justify the return. Now I’ve swapped in an NVMe drive and everything’s working fine.

Check which slots are compatible with NVMe M2 or standard M2, ensuring they include the required components. A minor adjustment might resolve the issue.

I placed an order for a Samsung Evo 970 which is listed as officially supported. We’ll find out how it performs. My new MSI monitor has been performing well until now, but I’ve noticed some dead pixels. At this stage, I’m considering switching to MSI. Ugh, better hope it lives up to the price.

I'm experiencing the same issues again with my own problems. Any updates would be appreciated.

I just purchased a Samsung Evo and discarded the Crucial MX500. I didn<|pad|>'s decision not to file an RMA was due to limited downtime and minimal heat sink concerns. The BIOS is up-to-date, but I haven’t the motivation to verify performance changes. It seems unlikely it made a difference.

MX500 cannot fit in the top slot due to electrical restrictions. It's a SATA drive with an M2 connector, and the top slot (M2_1) only supports PCIe devices. The bottom slot (M2_2) is compatible because it accepts both SATA3 and PCIe drives. The issue isn't with the board but with the specifications. I found this information by accident while searching for a heatsink mount, remembering that installing a post isn't needed for 2280 size drives with this particular heatsink. The unfinished hole appears to be similar to a case screwless mounting peg.

The silkscreen clearly indicates this port doesn't accept SATA. It's crucial to review the motherboard manual before purchasing to confirm compatibility.

Read the specifications of the board you’re interested in buying!!!! Because I’ll check online and tell you your product isn’t great since it doesn’t match the hardware requirements...Usual.
