Considering the latest B850 versus the older B650 options can be tricky. Each has its own strengths depending on your needs.

The new model will support PCIe Gen 5. Both versions will function effectively.

I operate the b650 tomahawk paired with a 7700X and an RTX 4070 Super. It works well. Running both Windows 11 and Bazzite is possible.

The B850's VRM differs from the X870/X870E, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's inferior. The VRM on the B650 is also worth considering. Regarding your options, sacrificing 5G LAN and Wi-Fi 7 for 2.5 LAN and WiFi 6 might be a good choice if you prioritize CPU performance with more cores.

I'm preparing to utilize the system and will be running a CPU of your choice.

Avoid gaming, handling several app processes, not finalizing CPU choice—exploring options with 6, 8, and 12 cores.

The 9900x is an excellent choice—it's a 12-core, 24-thread CPU, and I think its value matches the cost. The B650 Tomahawk can comfortably run on this processor, even under full load.

From a cost perspective, they also recommended 7900 instead of 7900x.
