MSI R7 260X frequently stops during testing
I recently encountered an unusual issue. When I push my GPU too hard, it freezes unexpectedly. It happens while playing PES 2017, Diablo 3, Far Cry 3, Don't Starve, etc., at random times (after 15 minutes or a few hours). Restarting is necessary to use the GPU, otherwise launching any game becomes impossible. I've significantly underclocked my GPU, which seems to reduce crashes but doesn’t eliminate them. Recently, I ran benchmarks using Valley Benchmark 1.0 and experienced three consecutive crashes right after starting the app, followed by a disturbing crackling noise. After each crash, I sometimes see strange screen artifacts when watching YouTube videos, especially with factory clocks. Now that I’ve underclocked, those artifacts are gone, but the crashes continue. I’m concerned this might be due to a failing PSU. I own a 430 CX Corsair PSU, which I used for two years without warranty. Despite that, my GPU worked perfectly for 10 months before issues started. I’m hoping it’s the GPU itself and not the power supply. Anyone have any thoughts?
Gpu drivers might be the issue. His r7 260x from Sapphire has been running smoothly for over a year and a half without any problems so far.
I’ve got the newest drivers set up, but older versions still won’t install from my external HDD. I’m hoping the issue isn’t with the GPU or my power supply, since I don’t want to spend more money.
I don’t have a friend with a suitable PSU for this GPU. My parents’ PC uses a standard 500W power supply, while my friend’s has a Lamtech model. I’m not sure I can handle this right now… I just remember the GPU ran without issues until it started screeching and crashing under stress.
The issue stems from inadequate power supply, which may lead to these problems. Make sure your PSU is functioning properly.
I could attempt to exchange the more affordable PSU from my parents' PC to see if it resolves the issue. I really just want to confirm whether the problem lies with the GPU or the power supply, so I’ll try it tomorrow morning. Could it possibly work this time?
