I assembled a fresh PC a month ago and everything worked fine, but recently I attempted to add more of the same RAM. After turning on EXPO, it started to malfunction. Fans and the cooler activated, and all colors lit up—including the RAM. The CPU and memory debug indicators appeared briefly, then disappeared. No posting occurred, fans didn’t speed up or stop, and no display showed anything. I reset the CMOS, but the issue remains. When trying to flash the BIOS, the LED blinked briefly before staying on continuously. The drive used USB 2.0 FAT32 8GB MBR. Anyone have suggestions? I’ve tested every possible RAM setup—old and new, single sticks, multiple slots, etc. My system runs AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, with MSI MPG B650 EDGE WIFI RAM, and G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB DDR5-6400 (16GB x4).

You experienced a delay because AM5 required memory training during the initial post, which can slow progress. In certain situations, this might add 10 minutes or longer.

This usually happens because BIOS Flashback couldn't locate the right file, often due to incorrect drive setup (wrong name, not in root folder, or using FAT32). The motherboard might also be rejecting the flash drive. I recommend confirming the setup matches the manual exactly and trying a different flash drive—older USB 2.0 models tend to work better. This configuration is risky; 4x16GB isn't recommended unless you're experienced and find a compatible BIOS version (older DIMMs often fail with newer updates).

For AMD systems, 6400MT/s isn't ideal since it defaults to 2:1 speed, hurting memory performance. If you need true 1:1 speed, you'll likely need luck with the CPU—AM5 chips are about half as fast at 6400 in single mode. You might need some manual adjustments for stability.

If you return the new unit, consider sticking to 32GB or upgrade to a 2x32GB setup instead of 4x16GB. Since you're having trouble getting the system to start with one stick, it's not the main problem but something you'll face again.

As @Naijin suggested, ensure enough time is given for POST (about 30-60 seconds for a single stick). Check that CMOS was cleared properly—earlier issues had boards refusing to clear unless the PSU was off. Disconnect the PSU, wait briefly, then remove the CMOS battery for a minute before retrying.

The problem isn't the RAM itself, I think. I started with the same 32 GB I already had, but left it idle for about an hour while nothing happened. I unplugged it from the wall, turned off the PSU, and removed the battery for four hours. The only concern I have is that my BIOS has reset to a version not compatible with my CPU. My drive is a USB 2.0 fat32 8GB in MBR format with MSI.ROM installed. It’s possible drives can be finicky, but this one seems fine. Thanks for the advice on RAM. I switched to AMD for the first time and didn’t realize this issue existed. Since Amazon returns are easy, I might send it back—no need for RAM, just used an Amazon gift card and thought I’d fill the gaps.

I waited roughly an hour for the POST and then again for the BIOS Flashback, which lit up for 30 seconds before staying steady afterward

When I switch to another drive, the BIOS indicator keeps blinking continuously. Also, placing all four connectors in both the CPU and memory sections remains lit indefinitely.

This situation isn't feasible on a standard motherboard without dual BIOS support. The closest scenario that could occur is a BIOS Flashback issue, which is very uncommon. The storage device appears to function oddly. I've encountered cases where BIOS flashback fails to re-flash the BIOS, making it worth checking an earlier revision to determine if it resolves the problem.

Sure, I'd be happy to clarify. Could you provide more details about what you're asking? Let me know what the second part refers to so I can give you a precise explanation.

The USB stick you're using needs to be compatible with BIOS Flashback, which is unusual since it doesn't work. BIOS Flashback may not support flashing the same BIOS version that's already on your motherboard. To work around this, try installing a revision that comes before yours, ensuring it differs from the current BIOS version so BIOS Flashback can function properly.
