MSI Motherboard Dead, no power, lights, etc..
The motherboard is an MPG Z690 Force Wifi. It seems to look good but hasn’t been used recently—no warranty included. It doesn’t power on at all. I’ve checked several forums online and tried various fixes. I’m curious if others have similar issues with this board, especially regarding component-level repairs. I’m hoping for guidance on identifying a dead chipset or corrupted BIOS. Today’s multimeter test showed the expected 3.3V on the power pins, but it still won’t turn on. Since it’s not expensive, I’m hoping someone can advise what to look for. Thanks in advance!
Have you attempted to turn off all devices except the power source?
Sure thing. Just the board, 24pin, and CPU power. Two different power supplies were used. I’ve reviewed at least 20 similar articles but no solution has been found. The only working feature is the BIOS flashback button, which seems disabled for other components. I’ve tried flashing it with multiple drives, but it keeps stopping after hours of blinking light. Performed a paperclip test while connected to power; the board powers on but shuts down immediately when released. Voltages look normal. Possibly a faulty Z690 chip. The two M.2 stands are not working. I’ve always been interested in tech and fixing things would be exciting.
The motherboard features RGB lighting. I suspect it will illuminate when I attempt to power it on. I've tested various components and without any additional PSU connections, only the power supply connection provides temporary power. Once connected, all fans operate normally. The CPU indicator appears and the debug screen displays "--". Otherwise, the board remains inactive. It's unusual.
