Hello, I hope everything is okay. Last Tuesday I powered on my PC as usual. At first, the Windows logo screen appeared and stayed stuck on the loader for about five minutes. I then pressed the reset button (though I’m not sure what that means). After that, the BIOS didn’t recognize the NVMe SSD in the M.2 slot on my motherboard. I’ve tried updating the BIOS, resetting it to defaults, and even removed the CMOS. I also tested the second M.2 slot but got no response. I switched UEFI to CSM mode and back. Here’s my setup: AMD Ryzen 5 3600x with G.Skill Ripjaws 16GB (8*2) at 3600Mhz, C18 Kingston A2000 M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe interface, 500 GB drive as backup, and a Gigabyte RTX2060 rev 2.0 HDD. In BIOS under system status it says M2_1 Not Present and M2_2 Not Present. I haven’t made any changes and have used this configuration for about a year without issues. I adjusted some BIOS settings after the SSD wasn’t detected, but nothing changed. Thanks!

Are there any other drives being identified? It seems like a possible faulty connection. Try using a different SD card to check if the system can detect it. If the system recognizes the other drive, it means the current one isn't working.

The NVMe SSD was functioning properly, but could an SSD die in this situation? My read and write speeds were similar to when I first purchased it. I don’t have a backup SSD at the moment; I’ll check if the other HDD is being recognized today. I was looking into this problem because several posts mentioned other PCI devices interfering with the M.2 slot, and there seems to be an issue with enabling SATA mode on the M.2 drive, but I couldn’t find any relevant settings. Thanks.

Sorry to share the disappointing update, I believe it might be a dead drive—I could be mistaken.

Sure, I’d be happy to help. For a replacement, consider whether NVMe M.2 is the best fit or if a 2.5-inch SATA SSD would suffice. Let me know your needs and I can suggest some options that might work well for you.

An M.2 SSD tends to perform better than a SATA SSD, though costs can vary based on the specific model.
