A common guideline is to use fewer sticks for better performance. This reduces the load on the CPU's IMC when handling XMP speeds and leaves extra space for future upgrades.

You can choose between getting two 16-gauge tubes, unless they’re single-ranked (2x16 are mainly pairs but not always 100%). Using two 2x16s will work better.

If the two 16GB modules are single ranked, then the four 8GB will work better under identical timings. Single CCD chips struggle more with four sticks compared to dual CCDs, which handle it smoothly. Boosting performance is mostly chance. Trying to push four sticks at once feels like pushing four single-ranked units. Once you switch to a dual CCD, the challenge changes. For instance, my 5600X stays steady at 2000 FCLK with two single-ranked sticks, but drops to 1833 at four. My 5900X can manage two sticks up to 1900 FCLK without issues, but it turns into a generator above that. It will still hit 2K and reach 1900 easily with four, but won’t exceed it. It probably depends on the board itself.
