I acquired two MSI Liquid Cooling GeForce® GTX 1080Ti Sea Hawk units in 2018. They feature built-in water cooling. Recently, I observed a decline in FPS and noticed overheating, checking temperatures revealed the system was running hot. It seemed the fans were malfunctioning, so I swapped them with Noctua parts to confirm. Despite this change, the GPUs remained warm. Fans continue spinning but temperatures still rise. This suggests either the coolant isn’t circulating properly or the thermal paste has degraded. When temperatures exceed 90°F, built-in fans activate for cooling, then shut off and temperatures spike again. My concern is whether the AIO water cooling system failed or if replacement is straightforward. The units appear sealed with no visible leaks. Advice on replacing the coolant or checking it yourself would be helpful. Watching a video from Tech Jesus showed the process being similar to what I saw, and since I haven’t disassembled GPUs before but installed CPUs, it should be manageable. Any warning signs or precautions I should note during this repair?

Don't attempt to disassemble the AIO for refilling; that would require breaking it apart. Instead, locate the exact model they used—sometimes they list it on their website. You might replace it with a compatible new unit, though it's been five years since launch. It should likely be a typical 140mm AIO, but mounting issues could arise. Alternatives include purchasing an Aircooler like the Arctic Cooling kit or an MSI 1080ti model.
