The issue involves my GS66 Stealth 10SF notebook running Mount & Blade Bannerlord 2 on medium graphics settings. From what I see, the graphics look manageable, so it shouldn’t be too demanding. After about five minutes of playtime, the frame rate plummeted to a point where the game felt almost impossible to play and the fans became extremely loud – much louder than usual in tough scenarios. The fans kept running until the laptop shut down completely.
This problem has happened before with Halo (after a short time) and sometimes in COD-Warzone after around two hours. I didn’t investigate further back then because it seemed logical, but now I’m convinced something is going wrong. Could this be related to MSI-specific configurations on my machine (thanks, Dragon Center)?

My initial reaction is “temps.” Could it be related to the bed? Maybe a sheet pulls something up and blocks the air supply. For a laptop, try removing the air vents with a vacuum. If that doesn’t help, open the case, clear out the fins, and clean the fans manually. Usually there are two fans; one might be burnt out and need replacement. Alternatively, check for obstructions in the intake area.
Thanks for your input! I mostly play at a table (and also faced issues with Bannerlord), sometimes on the couch—I use a hardcover pad. Here’s what I’ve done: vacuumed the ducts, opened the laptop to clear the fans, but realized too late that cleaning without compressed air isn’t that simple. I’ll buy some compressed air cans soon. I took photos of the fans to check if they’re dirty enough to be the issue. I replayed the game under worst-case conditions on the pad versus a normal table, added a book between laptop and pad to help airflow, and took another picture. Spent about 15 minutes—definitely better than before. It seems something might be blocking the intake externally. That shouldn’t be a problem since all sides are clear. While 15 minutes is a big improvement, it feels strange that the game would put so much strain on the system at first…
